Valun and the island of Cres
Valun is a small stone village on the western coast of Cres, gathered around a sheltered harbour where fishing boats and sailing yachts lie side by side. There are no crowds and no traffic in the old core - only the sound of the sea, the church bell and evening voices from the terraces along the waterfront.
Zdovice beach is roughly a 3 minute walk from the house, about 250 m along the promenade, and pebbly Raca beach follows some 300 m further. Restaurants, a bakery and cafes are all within a minute or two on foot, so you can leave the car parked and spend the whole day without it.
Behind the village, old shepherd paths climb through olive groves and holm oak forest towards Lubenice, the cliff top settlement 378 m above the sea, and continue on towards the wilder south of the island - some of the finest walking in the Kvarner region.

Restaurant Mamalu is about 30 m away, Caffe Bar Feruco about 40 m and konoba Tos Juna around 100 m. Zdovice beach lies 250 m from the door, Raca beach 300 m, and Grabrovica beach about 8 km away. The town of Cres is a 15 km drive, Lubenice about 10 km, and Rijeka Airport is roughly 58 km away.

Getting here
Cres is connected by ferry from Brestova to Porozina and from Valbiska on Krk to Merag, and by the bridge from the mainland over Krk. From the main island road a narrow scenic road descends to Valun; the village core is pedestrian, and parking is arranged on the approach to the village.
